  • Bruce Brodowski’s My Father My Son Explores the Heart of the Emotional Orphan.   In Brodowski’s profoundly personal work, he expresses the potentially precious, but commonly detrimental effect that that father/child relationship can have on a person, even into adulthood.  My Father My Son is a touching, gently straightforward book that will impact and inspire its readers to explore the inner workings of their hearts in order to find healing and fulfillment.    April Dellinger  Charlotte Literature Examiner

It hurts to read of pain but all of us at one time or another has had a feeling of not belonging or believing a lie that we have lived with for many years. Bruce Brodowski’s book tells the story of many who have grown up without the love and guidance of a father. This applies to both men and women. He writes about the strong effect that this has on the heart and mind of each of us. He states some general characteristics of the orphan heart but acknowledges that each of us is different in how we handle and portray our woundedness. The unforgiveness and bitterness that comes from the orphan heart can be healed. The good news is we are healed by The Father’s love. This love is a love of hope, peace, forgiveness and total acceptance. This book is about a faith journey, finding Our Father’s affections just for us and coming to wholeness through this love of God. I recommend this book for anyone who feels adrift in life with their relationships and those of us that need to know personally the saving grace of Jesus’ love. It is also a good reference book for inner healing guidance for those in the healing ministry.

I had always struggled with feeling good enough to be loved, but I never realized there was a valid reason for it. I thought I was just flawed–another aspect of the whole orphan mentality. Mr. Brodowski helped me to understand so much more about what an orphan mentality is, and I already knew a lot having adopted two orphans from Asia–as well as growing up in a broken home with no father figure until I was seven.
My Father, My Son, Healing the Orphan Heart, validates those feelings, explains why orphans feel the way they do, and then gives hope–you can overcome an orphan mentality. Through faith in Jesus Christ, seeing Him as your Heavenly Father, you can become the person God created you to be–able to receive and give love, not fear rejection, have healthy relationships, overcome your past, and a whole host of other behaviors that are self-destructive. This book covers all of these issues in detail, and much more, including illustrative stories from the Bible.
Mr. Brodowski liberally includes information from other authors, which I found helpful. At the end of the book are additional footnotes and resources.
If you are someone who has been wounded through the loss of a parent, real or felt, I highly recommend My Father, My Son, Healing the Orphan Heart. Even if you haven’t suffered this kind of loss, you probably know someone who has. Give them the gift of healing with this book. Most importantly, My Father, My Son, Healing the Orphan Heart, reinforces that healing is something God wants for all His sons and daughters–who He has adopted, the greatest gift for the orphan inside all of us.

In a world full of households where examples of godly fathers are lacking or absent, this book makes for a very, very timely read. In his book, Mr. Brodowski conveys a very important message about the need for us as adults to get the much needed healing from our childhood wounds so that we can be spiritually, mentally and emotionally healthy examples to our own children. As you read the book, you can definitely tell that the author sincerely desires inner healing in the lives of his readers as he was very open, honest and transparent about his personal trials which made him easy to identify with. More than this, he gives readers the much needed solution in the hope that we all can have in a loving Heavenly Father that makes all the difference in our lives. He conveys a message of hope, help and healing that readers can draw encouragement from despite the negative experiences they may have had to endured because of a lacking or absent earthly father in their lives. On top of the book being a page turner, I highly, highly recommend it because it was not only an awesome read but an awesome experience with God!
